Why you Should use Sandpaper Letters to Teach Letters

If you are teaching your child letters, you should consider using sandpaper letters for there are numerous benefits:

Montessori sandpaper letters engage multiple senses, particularly touch and sight. The textured surface of the letters allows children to trace them with their fingers, which reinforces muscle memory and helps in retaining the shape and form of each letter.

Sandpaper letters cater to kinesthetic learners who understand and remember information better through physical activities. By tracing the letters, children develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, which are crucial for writing. This hands-on approach makes the learning experience active rather than passive, helping children to internalize the shapes of the letters in a way that traditional writing or reading exercises might not achieve.

When used correctly, sandpaper letters are introduced alongside the phonetic sounds of each letter rather than their names. This method helps children associate each letter with its corresponding sound, laying a strong foundation for reading. By emphasizing the sounds, children can begin to understand how letters form words and start decoding words more easily as they progress in their literacy journey.
